In 2009 the Four Freshmen are Bob Ferreira, Vince Johnson, Brian Eichenberger and Curtis Calderon.
The trombonists are Scott Whitfield, Ira Nepus, Andy Martin, Dan Barrett and Rich Bullock, together with Llew Matthews (piano), Chuck Berghofer (bass and Butch Miles (drums).
Freshmen founding member (and 1956 voice) Bob Flanigan makes a brief appearance at the end.

  • You can listen to the current Freshmen in another video from 'oldjazzfan' with these pictures and a different soundtrack - it should be available to the right side of your screen.

  • Interesting thoughts, Wolfsky and I totally agree that today's Freshmen are 'the best yet' - although we owe it to the originals for having 'invented' the whole thing.

For us folks in the UK the Lettermen were much less visible and don't have the following of the Freshmen, who appeared here often and are much loved.

  • Wolfsky- you can see these pictures and more, with the current group singing. Search on 'Four Freshmen and Live Trombones' here on YouTube.

  • I believe this current (group 22) version of the Four Freshmen is, bearing in mind their outstanding instrumental abilities, probably the best since the 1950's (I heard them live in almost every decade of the last 50 years).

There are other YouTube offerings with the current group soundtracks and hopefully this performance will be released in due course (it was recorded for possible release, I understand).

'oldjazzfan'. Thank you for the 5 stars

  • AWESOME, AND WHAT A GREAT TROMBONE SECTION

  • No wonder Brian Wilson got his sound here!~

  • Your listening to the original Freshmen - I have the recording on LP from the late fifties/early sixties.

  • LIke this youtube version with trombones. Heard the straight vocal version last night in their tour through Community Concert Association.

  • Having grown up with The 4 Freshmen--My Dad loved them, & he always sang along to their music--I've seen every--almost every incarnation, & both vocally & talent-wise, this is the best 4 Freshmen of all --hands-down. I really wonder if Tony Butala will do the same thing when he calls it a career; I'd love to hear a new, younger incarnation of The Lettermen, also. I love their music, & own 8 of their albums. Any thoughts? Wolfsky9

  • These 4 " new" Freshmen are just so good it just leaves me speechless.

TYhis song has been in my mind all-day, & I never tire of hearing them do it. This is real singing. Wolfsky9

  • Yeah, I have the new recording: "Four Freshmen and Live Trombones." It's really good.
