Intense flooding hit southwest China earlier this week. It's led to more than 50 deaths so far, according to state-run media. Now in some flood-hit areas, residents have the difficult task of picking up the pieces... going through what remains of their homes.
Residents in Wangmo County of Guizhou Province have returned home and started moving silt and cleaning their houses. It comes after a devastating flood hit the region on Monday.
The sky has cleared but everywhere along the riverbank in Wangmo County remains a swamp.
Zhang Jian has been cleaning his house together with nine family members. The flood even reached the second floor of his four story house along the riverbank.
[Zhang Jian, Flood Victim]:
"We returned home after the flood only to find many things gone, the liquid gas storage tank, the disinfection cabinet...all have been washed into the river. I guess it will take two days to clean my house."
The flood brought a loss of more than 50,000 yuan (about 77-hundred US dollars) to Zhang's family.
Fortunately no one in his family was injured.
And many families along the riverbank in Wangmo are in the same situation as Zhang.
Besides the county urban areas, eight townships in Wangmo have also been flooded.
All communication services have been restored. The 38-mile-long cement paved road reaching two worst-hit townships has been cleared.
