Roman historians have also noted that there WERE crucifixions where nails were driven through the hands, while the arms were "roped up" on the cross to aid in most of the support. Nobody knows for sure what happened, but it is possible Christ was nailed to the cross, thru his hands, with his arms also being roped up there - like many representations seem to show.
