Please turn up the volume!

This composition has been recorded by desseler4 who gladly offered his services to everyone (me included) and I appreciate it a lot. There's Rusty8984 who constantly offered me his services, so he get my appreciation too. Two excellant composers, who have done awesome recreations and original compositions, that you should check:

5th composition/video, approximately 16 hours of work, all the notes found by ear, but the Mario and the bass ones got confirmed by an audio non-visual MIDI.

This is most polished and satisfying recreation recreation yet mainly because of the trouble that I faced. This song got actually started just after my Stilt Village recreation, but it didn't go really well and I gave up on it temporarly for Dust Devil. I had low expectations on this one at first and I feared that it would turn really bad, but with some determination, it finally turned on quite good in my opinion.

After that Oho Oasis, a recreation where I first used dickspeed and soundfonts, got good reception (more than usual for me), I was quite uncorfotable getting back with the traditionnal way of composing which would feel like a step back. However, I remembered that you don't need to break the limits in order to make enjoyable compositions like Tiger, Fenix, Cat, Axelrod, HCBailly, BrianLED, Adolfo and more proved it in the past. Plus, that's their works that got me into Mario Paint Composer. Consider this one a tribute to old-school composing and my personnal desire to become versatile.

This song comes from the first game in the Donkey Kong Land series on Game Boy which is basically a recreation of it's counterpart : Donkey Kong Country for the SNES. However, while this game got some it's graphics, baddies and music, RARE put a lot of original content and made it feel almost like it's own Donkey Kong game. Its 8-bit soundtrack is full of excellant songs such as this one that I had to recreate.

By limiting yourself with the original program limitations, I got many issues that I had to resolve with weird solutions in order to be accurate. I doubled some notes and even added some atonal ones (for percussions because they aren't too apparent) to boost up the volume of certain instruments, made some weird octave changes in order to make some melodes sound accurate, etc. I guess we can conclude that I did well recreating the goofy style and reputation of old-school composing =P.

Finally, thanks to brianLED review who teached me the importance of articulation, I experimented a lot with the volume control and dynamics and I spent 3-4 hours only on this in the hope to make it the best as possible. However, I was far form being an expert and a lot of volume bars are all over the place in a deseperate manner to add some effects. I do think that overall, I still did good in this domain.

Special thanks to my friends and subcribers for encouraging me and I hope that you will enjoy this composition from me even with it's old-school style. I and I'll always try my best to give you the most enjoyable compositions possible. I'm dedicating this video to RCPlanes59 for his perseverance in working with the original limitations.

I'm currently working on a remix and another original composition, so expect more from me...slowly, of course. ;)

  • I will say the same about your *Construction Site* composition which is really enjoyable. The notes were almost perfect and the instrumentation excellant ; I was actually surprised how good it sounded on MPC. ;)

Thanks for the comment and please don't judge yourself negatively from this if you did ; the only extra is that the dynamics got bonus attention because of a doubled tempo =P. In the hope to hear more renditions from you!
