I remember following this from my place out here in Japan. All the computers humming, recording this as it went along despite the delays by Kathy winters (And that damn boat too!) The launch was awesome though!
This test was lifting the equivalent weight of a real second stage and capsule, powered by a booster lacking a 5th segment that will eventually (hopefully) used.
I thought it looked wonderful. It reached Mach 1 in 50 seconds, what more do you want from a vehicle that weighs well over a million pounds?
Damn you Kathy winters!

The I-X is 200,000 lbs lighter than the production model.

It accelerates faster, actually.

I believe those are the exaust of the stabilization motors, keeping the vehicle straight.

The onboard cameras show a lot of brown puffs coming from the top of the vehicle. What causes that?

Is it just my imagination, or does it seem more sluggish on the launch than Shuttle?
