Lyrics:
Dear Avery
I think of you only
Were you waving
Were you dead on the vine?

Oh Avery
To think of you lonely
Would I could just grab you
By the nape of your neck

There are times life will rattle your bones
And will bend your limbs
But you're still far and away the boy you've ever been
So you bend back and shake at the frame
Of the frame you made
(But don't you shake alone)

Please, Avery, come home

Head strong
You and your long arms
Listing lazily
On the cusp of your teens

But you were my Avery
And when you needed saving
I could just grab you
By the nape of your neck

Chorus

  • I love this song. it seems like this song is a little more country. It's so good!

  • @MrCHUCKIECHEESE666 Avery is his son. Well, not really. His son's real name is Henry. I assume this some is just made up with no personal connection to Colin Meloy. In the song, it states, "you were always the boy you've ever been." Hope it helps! Anyway, have a good day! XOXO-Umbreon

  • i cant decide, who is Avery to the singer? his daugher?

lol dude, I wasn't 'disrespecting' the name Brandon. I was saying that the name Brendan was unique and fairly rare until the 1980's in which Brendan and several variations such as Brandon became more popular, which is similar to the story of her daughter's name.

As for calling me ignorant, it's both rude and incorrect. Brandon is the British deviation of Brendan, which comes from Brennin, which comes from Brennus. Brandon is not Southern Irish; it's Anglo-Irish.

  • @DominoGray Actually, Brandon is a South Irish name. I was named that because my family moved from there. It means Fiery-hill sword. So please don't disrespect a name if you haven't researched it.

  • I'm really excited - the day after Thanksgiving, the lead singer is gonna be on the radio, talking about his new book, and I get to talk with him! I just wish I knew what radio station!

This music is so beautiful. I feel so fortunate that I get to have such a wonderful opportunity!

  • I think of her, always.

  • @bluetomato1 oh ikr i heard this and im like :OO before like 2 years ago i couldn't even find a a magent with my name on it now its in a song wow

My name is Brendan. I'm a Canadian, but my family are N. Irish immigrants. When they chose my name in 1989, it was an unusual name that was meant to pay homage to my family's past culture. Then came the 90's and everywhere you looked a new baby was being born as 'Brandon' or other variations. When I was a kid it irked me. Now I know a name is 'made' special, not chosen.

Besides, Avery is an absolutely lovely name. Millions could use it and it'd still be lovely
