Lion and Javelina Surprise
by Pamela Nestor Hanover
Yavapai County, AZ

I was filming a bunch of javelinas going into a mine, when suddenly a mountain lion jumped out from behind a rock. One javelina ran up the left side and bit the lion on his rear. Then, when the lion turned around, another javelina came from behind on the right and chased him off, he leaped and ran away.
This was filmed less than a mile from my house in AUG 05.

  • Thanks. I never plan on things like this to happen, but I seem to be in the right place at the right time.

  • looks like a bedding area in that little cave, lion was hanging out in there bedding area maybe waiting to ambush the pigs... pigs chased it off...

  • bet that took your heart rate out of your comfort zone

  • whoa! great footage

  • @GoldCoast100 Cats are natural born ninjas.

  • Wow what a great event to witness. I have two friends that exactly the same thing happened to them while deer hunting. The difference was that it was a single javelina, the lion could not kill the javelina. The lion came back later on with two more lions. the 3 of them killed the javelina. Great video thanks.

  • we used to have a healthy mntn lion population here till realtors started selling mc mansions and putting in roads. then the harvesters came. haven't seen one in years now. same with bears, coyotls, foxes, reptiles, and phibians. people can't seem to just let it be. now we've got every type of hunter: coon dog hunters, cruisers, flippers, spotlighters, trappers, baiters, and pure poachers. they seem to think it's their right to remove our last remaining wildlife.

  • where the cougar come from?? :D

  • I saw this on another site and knew that was AZ. Great vid.
