There is a right way and a wrong way to measure your blood pressure. In this video, Harvard Heart Letter Editor Patrick Skerrett demonstrates both. For more tips and to learn about the Harvard Health Letter, go to www.health.harvard.edu/128
Monitoring your blood pressure several times a day will give you an idea of how and when your meds are working. On meds, one normally has peaks and valleys in one's bp.
Short, clear and simple. I liked this video because in just a couple of minutes, the patient using a blood pressure monitor designed for home use will know how to use it and what not to do. I have even embedded it on one of our pages. The only negative point was while I know where the brachial artery is, most people won't have a clue! But then, the way things are explained, nobody really needs to know. Otherwise a truly patient-oriented and useful video. Congrats!
Good Video: It's missing one small thing At least I think it is ? I have the common type where you pump it up when I put the other part on my arm it has ARTERY MARK on it ?? Where is that ARTERY ?? Typically ??
This video is really helpful. I didn't realize that I was taking my blood pressure the wrong way. Also I found out from the Heart Letter that the wrist monitors aren't as good as the home monitors that go on the arm
This is great! I'm sending the link to my parents, who have one of these devices at home but don't know how to use it. Now they'll have online instruction. - Ann

I taught my brother how to use a blood pressure monitor. He got it right the first time.
