Coming off of the best recruiting class of his campaign, third year
head coach Larry Fedora is put to the test. Many sports analysts say
that by year three a coach should have his type of system in place and
producing results. The idea behind that is that it takes three years
for a coach to recruit his type of players. By the third year, most of
the previous coach's players would be graduated. After going to the
same bowl game, the New Orleans Bowl, two years in a row, year three
has some added pressure to perform. Fedora says that he is not
satisfied with the program's position, and feels that he is behind in
his long-term schedule that he put in place when he first was hired.
Although fans are demanding results and a higher standard than what
was set during the Jeff Bower era, Fedora is not on any type of hot
seat this year. Assistant Athletic Director Jack Duggan supports Coach
Fedora and his vision. Duggan goes on to say that it is ludicrous to
think that Fedora would be in question of being fired if the team did
not improve on their previous two seasons. Only time will tell if the
program is ready to take that next step towards a conference
championship. With three Fedora recruiting classes enrolled, fans will
be able to see the Fedora vision at its finest in 2010.
