I don't have anything to say to you folks." Lyons trustee Richard Schuppe wasn't happy to see the crew from Fox Chicago News when we caught up with him at village hall Wednesdau evening, just an hour after a new agenda was hurriedly posted for a special board meeting Thursday night. It says Schuppe is to resign and the board will appoint his replacement.
Despite the new agenda, Schuppe pointedly denied he was resigning when we questioned him. But Schuppe couldn't explain why the agenda says he plans to resign.
Two weeks ago Fox Chicago News broke the story of Schuppe and Lyons Mayor David Visk accidentally recording themselves while riding in a Lyons police car in a parade last year.
On the tape Schuppe makes a racial slur while telling the mayor about having a refrigerator delivered to his home. And Mayor Visk responds with an apparent racial joke.
Last week Lyons voters dumped Visk from the mayor's office by a wide margin.
But the man who will take his place next month says he's learned Visk plans to thumb his nose at voters and appoint himself trustee when Schuppe resigns Thursday night.
The word is Schuppe will resign and the mayor's will appoint himself to that position thereby staying in a position of power and influence despite losing the election. Because Visk is still the mayor he has the legal authority to appoint himself.
Schuppe says there is no truth to the story.
