World war 2 took place about 330 years before fallout 3. The great war, or World war 3 took place 200 years before fallout 3. Or more precise, before the lone wanderer was born.

The great war is in 2077 and Fallout 3 is in 2277 which means, that the game takes place 300 years after WW2 and not 200

this game is awsomeand yet so sad

the whole storyline of fallout3 is that 200 years from world war 2 and it happened the way it realy happened in real life only worse the culture didnt change we didnt advance in technoligly exept vaults and war and weapons of mass destruction then one day fallout the war heads fell and fallout3 is just simulation of what could have happened it makes you realize how lucky we are it didnt we realy are lucky we realy did come close
