@Coltaculuss Couldnt they have just blindfolded the eagles then have someone ride the eagle over mount doom and drop the ring in? I think the eagles would have been game since it would have saved like 1000 human lives. Not including the elfs and ents.

@jckulewsky So you think the Orcs could climb upward steep rocky terrain faster than a giant eagle could fly over it? And no, it's not really necessary to land in order to drop the ring, just swoop low and release it. You know, like a bomber? Catapults hit flying targets? lol, they're barrage weapons for ground targets, not AA weapons. They can't track a flying target, nor fire upwards with a big stone to hit one. And as you say, two hobbits made it past the Eye, why not eagles?
