A jig is an awesome big fish bait! But a lot of people don't fish one because they have missed a lot of fish, and no longer have confidence in it... Trim the weedguard, and you'll get a better hook up ratio. And you WILL miss some fish on a jig, but when you hook up, its a pig!!!!

@TheGermanshepherd101 Lighter rigs are fine for open water but in heavy cover the light rigs fall way short. A 6 - 10 lb bass will wrap you up and break off in heavy cover before you can get her turned and coming up, hence the heavier rigs. Every rod, reel, bait has its ideal place for a specific pattern. Lighter rigs are not designed nor capable for fishing heavy cover in which the Jig & Pig excels at.

hey was upp, that too heavy set up, why not medium power-fast action? spinning is even mor easy, i use the set up i wrote n i get a load of bits, on the jigs way dow i giv it one to three jerks

@TheRubberDuck139 Stop using it like a worm. The J&P imitates a crawfish or a defensive crawfish. Learn the traits of a crawfish and then imitate it. Bass are lazy, they like an easy meal. So remember bass hit bait on the fall, its easier for them to catch it.

@TheRubberDuck139 the easiest time to learn this bait is in the late winter, early spring, or late fall. The one thing this guy does not tell you that is more important than anything else and that is "Confidence in yourself and the bait". Without that you are waisting for time. Look at all the good fisherman out there, they all have a go-to bait or something they are known for. I have tried to teach several people on how to use the jig and pig, and some never get it.

@techn9ne82 Match the hatch first. Add plastic chunk to the jig in the summer. Chances are you have had bites, Bass have a tendency to pick a jig up and you never know it. A bass will 90% of the time hit the bait on the fall, you have to maintain contact with that bait 100% of the time. Jig is rather difficult in the summer because bass will suspend due to the thermocline. Some lakes have a TC and some do not that depends on the depth of the lake...

Thks for the knowledge! It'll improve my skillz for the falling next year.

@techn9ne82 Here are a few tips on jig fishing. Keep your color selection simple. I typically only use two colors of jigs, brown or black and blue. Find trailers that match your jig color, usually zoom ultravibe chunk in green pumpkin are the best in most water. I use them in clear and stained water and they seem to work just as well in both. Part of the key to fishing with jigs is patients. Dont expect to catch a fish every cast. Find spots that look like good bass habitats.
