From the film "Wanted for murder", directed by Laurence Huntingdon in 1946 is a sequence showing vintage London Transport STL type buses. The interior sequence on the upper deck doesn't look authentic, but the scenes on the entrance platform look as though they were shot on a genuine STL bus.
The STL was introduced to London in 1932 and in 1946 a majority of the buses were still running because delivery of new RT type buses did not start until 1947. Almost half of the STLs were scrapped in 1950, and the last ran on public service duty in London's country area in August 1954.
Only four STL type buses still exist. Two (vehicle numbers 441 and 2377) have been beautifully restored by the London Bus preservation Trust, one (no.469) is owned by the London Transport museum, and another (no. 2093) is about to undergo a full restoration by the Ensign Bus Company.
In this clip from the film, Stanley Holloway, Derek Farr and Dulcie Gray are also seen. Despite the use of some rather obvious back projection in places, the film contains much location footage of London only a year after the end of the second world war.
At about 1 minute, there's a glimpse of an ex-Tilling open-staircase STL going away from the camera.
