WTVJ and anchor Ralph Renick look at the Blight on the Beach, particularly the area around 21st Street, which at the time was home to burlesque joints and the like! This is a short, edited version of the story that aired, but it's still cool to see some of those old pictures -- the Miss Universe pageant, the Convention Center, the Fontainebleau Hotel, Place Pigalle, etc. This footage is now housed at the Louis Wolfson Media History Center. I've uploaded this as part of a post I'm writing, for the SAY SIX! blog, http://saysix.blogspot.com/ . The blog post will concentrate on Renick's final years in broadcasting, at WCIX Channel 6.
What a beautiful video of Miami Beach in its heyday after world war two. Great video! I love Miami Beach!
