"I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people." - Jeremiah 31:33
Exasperated by the repeated intransigence and infidelity of Israel, frustrated by Israel's short-term memory of God's steadfast love, the Lord promises to engrave His law in the hearts of His people, that they may never forget and forsake their Covenant.
The centuries cannot silence the cry of the prophet, demanding justice and truth, seeking peace and freedom, proclaiming forgiveness and hope; Jeremiah's cry echoes our own.
This chant may be sung in protest assemblies and marches, and for clamoring for social justice. It may also be used as an intercessory prayer (Prayers of the Faithful), and new lyrics may be written to suit the particular needs of the occasion and the community.
