@jonsson666 Also, you have to remember that in this case though, the primary culprit here is not hyperventilation....it is acidosis (gapped or non-gapped)...hyperventilation was a compensatory response to acidosis...so these are two different things here.....
-
@jonsson666 I suppose I didnt understand your question....Obviously primary hyperventilation will cause alkalosis, as you have pointed out. Thank you for your clarification.
Goodluck

@experience271 that is not the answer to my question - there are situations when the PRIMARY problem is hyperventilation (the most common is psychogenic hyperventilation during a panic attack) which causes drop of CO2 and raise of PH in the blood which causes alkalosis so -> hyperventilation causes alkalosis

I dont understand...isnt a "normal ANION GAP", a good thing??....Why does a normal anion gap lead to acidosis???
-
@jonsson666 No...acidosis causes hyperventilation....because that is a compensatory mechanism the lungs uses to help help return the blood pH. Metabolic acidosis means low bicarbonate. this reduces blood PH....the only way the PH can go back up is if enough oxygen enters the blood...consequently, you breathe fast ( hyperventilate) to get as much oxygen into your lungs as possible.....this is a compensatory mechanism used by the lungs.....

You are a great teacher! Thank you very much for this great lesson.

isn't hyperventilation causing alkalosis - not acidosis ?
