If Katanas are such great swords how come the japanese got their ass kicked in history everytime they met europeans with sabers? >:P Cavalery sabers were used in all Europe, US , Russia , Otoman Empire,Arab countrys etc etc etc even in last century. The Saber was the real deal, katanas are just overrated.

it is a true skill to not only make but to know what your looking at. beautiful work and an amazing skill.

@Magician12345 The peg ( Mekugi as it is called ) is actually there for safty, it doesn't need to be on the sword as the handle will hold for itself, Some Katana have 2 some only one Mekugi peg. cheap knockoff Katana has a handle normaly glued to the tang and maybe a fake Mekugi pin in it.

Bowing , is probably the feature of Japanese etiquette that is best-known outside Japan. Bowing is considered extremely important in Japan, so much so that, although children normally begin learning how to bow from a very young age, companies commonly provide training to their employees in how to execute bows correctly.

so its just a little bamboo peg that keeps the blade in the handle?

for once something showing a real way to examinate a japanese sword, way to not hurt yourself (duh i cut my fingers) or damage the sword (fingers on the blade, poorly fixed blade in the tsuka, and any problem that can happen with old japanese swords)
