Cuyes are rodents from the Andes region of South America. When the Hispanics arrived in the XV century, they named Cuyes as Guinea Pigs thinking it was the same animal they saw in Africa.

The Cuy can be a good pet, and also a source of food. Many people in Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador and the U.S. eat Cuyes grilled or deep fried.

  • we breed pet cuys and will eventually use their offspring to breed meat cuys. So yes, America has discovered them through Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern

  • I hope Americans never discovered Guinea pigs, so they wont be attacking us for eating their "pets" The breed for pets were different from the breed for meat. The breed for meat was lest furry and much lager.

  • The cuys also are food, like the the rabbits, the cuy are cooked.

  • Yes the cuys are are from south america, from your nation in especific.
