@pobaslo it all depends on the torque of the engine rather than the fact if its on petrol or diesel. u can change gear at whatever rpm u want as long as the engine doesnt mind it.

is the insurance cheap on this particular model for a new driver?

i think shifing like that and driving with fifth gear is not good for car special for petrol... i think you need to shift at 2500rpm and not at 1200 rpm.
