Lightning Robot Test Day (take 2)

The electronics have been fixed and motors repaired (magnets) and now she drives even better than when she was 'Thunder' robot. Now showing great control and turn of speed, very able to position Lightning just where I want to, and able to run away too when needed. www.calvertfilm.fsnet.co.uk

Cool video! However I have 2 questions

Are u friends with John Willoughby which is why u became tag-team partners?

Also, will Lightning come out of retirement some time?

Yes, I became friends with John Willoughby whilst doing a live event at Lakeside shopping Centre in Essex. He then invited my team to join his as Tag team mates. Lightning was only just ready for that. We had 2 flippers and couldn't self-right. The next year (series 7) we got on the show on our own, and with a single flipper, we could get back over when flipped.

Lightning is still running. In fact we plan to run it up soon. But fighting is expensive. We might do static displays.

Well, how much is it to fight?

When you add fuel, food, and others costs, it takes £50 per event just to start. Perhaps more. Then if you lose a fight, it can be anything. When we lost against Gravity we had £10 of damage. But if an axe goes through your electronics one hit could cost you £600 or more. So regular fighting could build up some costs, and needs to be taken on as a hobby, with a big level of commitment from all of the team. Also it takes time. Repair & development time can be quite a lot too.

in terms of time, money, repair and costs how do you think splinter felt when they came up against hypno-disc but they got it repaired and ready for the annaialtor ony to face HYPNO-DISC

i would like to see what they done with splinter there was not much to base a new robot on

Thanks for your comments. Gravity did have a killer flipper, one of the best but Lightning had a flat tyre (unknown to us) when it fought them, so we couldn't move well. It could have been different. Who knows? We did try to make it a nice looking machine, so cheers for noticing. Lightning is retired but still running. We occasionally do live events. We beat Tornado in 2004 at Lakeside shopping centre, Essex, during one such event. That fight is on YouTube too.
