Don Giovanni Act 1 Number 11 Aria (Finch'han dal Vino)
This is a MyRepetiteur MIDI video of a number from Don Giovanni. There are about fifty such videos from the piano vocal score.
These videos are intended to help singers learn the music. They are not intended to be performances of the music.
The MyRepetiteur web site will contain all these videos when it launches in mid 2011. It will also contain downloadable files in many formats including MIDI and ENF(Finale and Sibelius). There will also be tools for learning the lyrics. Some numbers will have Karaoke versions.
If you spot an error (there are many) please note it in the comments.
I set all of the tempi based on recorded examples. If you download the ENF file you can change the tempi as you wish. For a few numbers thare are also transposed versions. These are the "Low and Slow" versions. When they are mastered they may be taken up in pitch and tempo.
These first videos on YouTube are all full versions - all parts are played. All numbers have at least one other "Music Minus One" version where the vocal line is missing. For ensembles there are multiple MMO versions. For example there are seven versions of the sextet.
This is not a performance of Mozart but rather a study aid for singers of Mozart. The vocal lines are sung by different instruments for clarity. Generally the Don is assigned to a trombone, Leporello to a tuba, Masetto to a trombone, and Octavio to a trumpet. The women are usually assigned to flutes or saxophones.
There are certain technical and legal limitations. The English translation in the published score is copyrighted so it isn't shown. The music itself is public domain. It is easy with these tools to add any translation in any language. The software used doesn't support appogiaturas properly, These have been rendered as their equivalents using regular notes. That means it sounds right - but doesn't look quite right..

I timed all of the versions on YouTube - at least for the big name singers. The slowest is Siepi with Furtwangler. The fastest seems to be that of Bacquier. I have versions from 110 to 240. With the ENF file you can set the tempo for whatever speed you want.
Stay tuned!

Thanks for posting. This is a lot of fun.

This short aria is high for a bass and there is no where to breathe. This means that most basses will have to work their way up to speed. There will be a "Low and Slow" version with the aria transposed down from BFlat major to GFlat Major and played at about 180. When the singer can handle it at low and slow, he can move up to speed and to pitch.

There will be four or five different versions of this aria. There will be this the full version, and Music Minus One version that has no vocal line. This version is played Presto at 210 bpm. This is about the speed that basses take it. Baritones generally take it a little faster - about 240.
