  • I was straightedge back before it was about crews or knuckledusters or any of that other macho bullshit.

I've watched straightedge move from being a positive choice to just another toxic lifestyle of homophobia, misogyny and violence, all maintained with a herd mentality and unquestioning adherence to dogma.

Seriously, if you're going to keep the actual bad stuff that goes with it, why not just keep drinking?

A sober asshole is still an asshole.

  • Agreed. I was the same way until I realized that modern straight edge is just the KKK with a different target.

I have a TREMENDOUS amount of respect for those who chose to stay clean, because I have seen how much guts it takes.

I'm not going to lie. I do enjoy marijuana. I feel no guilt about this, seeing as it is a personal choice and i keep it to myself.

conversely, I would never allow my marijuana usage to come before hardcore or skateboarding, because they are far more important to me.

  • You sound like an evangelist christian.

  • @xTrappedUnderIcex Seriously, I'm not the most politically correct person by any stretch.

But if you're not seeing homophobia, violence and misogyny in your local punk and hardcore scene I put it to you that you're not looking very hard.

Either that or you're in the most progressive community anywhere. Since you're from America, I doubt that's the case.

  • @iammadedeath positivity still lives in the scene, hardline is just the to far stem of the good movement, and because you dont care enough to find it isnt our fault.

  • @TheFiveoIce hope not lol we like the name

  • @n1GibsonGuitarist Doubt it.

  • @iammadedeath What? Are you talking about modern hardcore? Because where I live the scene has no homophobia violence or misogyny.

I've never seen "Straight edge violence" Everyone I know is pretty opened minded about it.

That shit only happens in Reno, where people listen to xAFBx

  • my band is called "The Judge"

would we have to change cause of these guys? even though they didnt make it big

  • @ekimusman2 It was the idea of proactively denying the use of self destructive substances in a movement that had become densely infested by heavy drug abuse. Straight edge was never about violence, it was about being active in response to facing life and living it to the fullest in clear conscious. It doesn't have much relevance now (neither does punk), but when it was new it was very influencing. Sucks that such great movements have now been reduced to fucking labels. fools need to recognize.

  • here's an idea: stay clean without labeling yourself.
