Oh, how I loved this place as a child! My grandparents lived in Lake Hopatcong, and they used to bring me to Bertrand's Island when I would go visit them. My grandfather would take me on the rides - the ones I remember the most are Lost River, the "airplane" ride, and the carousel (as well as all the kiddie rides, of course!) And my grandmother would play the boardwalk games with me - she loved the wheels. And I always had to have cotton candy when I was there...lol Oh, the memories!

Does anyone have videos of the Boomerang ride?

Summer of 1976/77 - THE CUBE and "Get Up and Boogie!" by Silver Convention! It was the summer I turned 13 and we learned the meaning of "Pingmellow Fights!" (When you try to hit your opponent with marsh mellows using ping-pong paddles!) Good times man! Skee ball and Elton John and Kiki Dee - "Don't Go Breakin My Heart!" How many times did we ride the roller coaster??? Scott - where are you now?

GREAT VIDEO! Born in 1971. Grew up in Fairfield. I remember going there a few times in the late 70s and early 80s. So sad it's gone ...

My first real date with my now husband was at Bertrand's Island, thanks for a warm hug in my heart. Is there anything left on the Island now? you can't go there correct?

Great video...thanks for the memories :)

How sad to see this all torn up. There were so many good times there in the 60's.

Fantastic job.....and thanks for the memories......
I love NJKenny, I have know idea who you are but this just brought such joy and warmth to my heart I just don't know what to say. I grew up in White Meadow Lake until 1972 and the place is just engrained in my heart just as Betrand's Island is still something that is in my dreams.....it was a huge part of my childhood. To @ronzee55, I grew up on Huron.....and Wenonah! As a child all you want to do is become an adult, and now all I want back are the magical nights I remember at BI.

@Meeversole I am so glad you liked my video. It came straight from the heart, and so was easy for me to create. I too remember the wonderful times as a kid growing up and this truly magical place Bertrand Island was and still is. They can never take away the memories, even with a bulldozer.

I remember going to B.I. with my brownie troop in the late 60's. Loved the ride that "unhinged" the cars and sent you careening, bouncing off the walls through a dark tunnel. Unsafe, but that's what made it great!!

Yes..that was the "Boomerang!!"..unsafe by today's standards but what a great headbanger of a ride it was!!

Nice choice of music, too. Mr. Aker Bilk & Stranger on the Shore--one of my Dad's favorite songs
