  • I will home educate my child regardless of what the law says. To hell with the state. My child needs to know REAL history, not a white washed version that makes America look like a shining star and the rest of the world as evil aggressors. My child needs to read real classic literature for the sake of reading itself. My child needs to know Greek and Latin in preparation for math and science. My child needs to form his own views of life and the world, not be taught how to see and think about the world

  • I homeschool my child. I was a teacher. For those of you who believe that only parents with a teaching degree should teach let me tell you a little secret. The only thing they teach us in College in order to prepare us for the teaching world is basically child psychology. I speak for the elementary education majors. They don't teach us the material we deliver. We have a book, that tells us what to say and do with the children in our class. Anyone who can read, can do this.

  • What the heck? There are kids who are abused by the public school system too!!! How hypocritical...

  • Another thing, homeschooled children are NOT socially backwards. In fact, it's the exact oppisite. When I finished homeschooling and began public school, I was agast at how disrespectful, rude, inconsiderate, ignorant, and just mean all of the other students were to each other and their teacher. That is the social state publically educated children are in. I was exact oppisite because I was the product of homeschooling. That's why I would always become every teacher's favorite student.

  • Homeschooling is much better. I was homeschooled until the fourth grade. Last year and the year before that, I received straight A's on every report card. Last year, I received many awards which included the highest score on a language ussage test in my entire grade, the highest score on a reading test in the entire school, and an award for meeting the top standards for every subject area on the end-of-the-year test. Duke University even offered to sponser me to take the SAT.

  • Children have an individual right to an education. Just because some nut wants to shield their kid from evolution, sex-ed, or whatever does not mean that they can deprive their children of their (the child's) right to an education. Lets be honest, the average person does not know a fraction as much about biology, history, or English grammar as the typical high school teacher of the field.

Children are not the governments property, but neither are they the property of their parents.

  • @deludedinsanehippie but that kind of "Im so scared of the world that I cant bear to let my little precious out into it" mentality is why you can usually spot a homeschooled kid in a second.

BS! I see kids like that all the time when I went to public school. Most of them were social retards too! They were students in GOVERNMENT SCHOOL! Yet when parents at home educate their kids its suddenly a problem.

Why? Because they aren't indoctrinating them to be socialists.

  • @phantastickyle Wow, yeah, all public schools are full of gangbangers and drugs. There's nothing wrong with homeschooling in general, but that kind of "Im so scared of the world that I cant bear to let my little precious out into it" mentality is why you can usually spot a homeschooled kid in a second. Unless you live in a blighted ghetto there are no gangs and murder in your local public school. Get real.

  • @dduppie

Now how did you get from not being considered a legitimate education, if you teach your child in a subject that you are not certified in to, not being allowed to talk to your children?

    That is just obscured.

You can not only talk to them, you can still indoctrinate them with what ever belief you want.

It just will not be, and should not be a legitimate education. Period.

  • @phantastickyle

As long as mom and dad have a license. Sure.

No one is saying you can't teach your kids. They just don't want dumbasses teaching there kids bullshit, without being informed/educated with facts. Not oppinions.
