"Why" - Toronto Humane Society Protest ( Annie Lennox -Why )

UPDATE: Charges were laid against former THS President TimTrow on Nov. 26, 2009 and many of the staff and old board members. (later were dropped due to former lawyer/THS President: Tim Trow's defense stating the search warrant was improperly executed.) The NEW THS has all new board members elected May 2010 and re-opened June 2010 with dedicated staff who have restored the THS back to a safe haven for homeless animals where they are treated and cared for humanely.

Approximately 200 protesters rallied in the rain for the Toronto Humane Society policies to include "humane euthanasia" for dying / suffering animals, stop mismanagement of funds, animal abuse & neglect, & demand the resignation or firing of current president: Tim Trow, & his supporting board who hide behind him. A recent story by Kate Hammer published in the Globe & Mail where numerous past and present THS staff reported deplorable conditions for the animals, as well as many other improprieties. This resulted in a public outcry and an investigation by the OSPCA, and the suspension of the Toronto Humane Society's role in animal cruelty investigations. The Toronto Humane Society Protests will continue until positive changes are made to management, and animals are treated humanely.

Brightly... you are BLIND. You know NOTHING of what goes on inside the shelter. You're basing your opinion on your personal experience with them and what you've been told by them.

I'm in there often. I've seen the REAL dirt. "They only euthenize and animal if they are sick"... that's BULLSHIT. You clearly either work in the shelter's management or you are weak-willed and have been sweettalked by Tim and his chronies.

THS has been this way for at least 20 years ago, when I attended a THS annual meeting. I was surprised to find all the angry ex-employees at the meeting, and the THS lawyer was the same guy who is presently representing a high profile MP in the news. At that time they were funded by the city, and only sent the members a list of approved candidates. These "elected candidates" were paid $50,000 a year and I think there were about 8 of them?

Anyone taking issue to the fact that Tim Trow wants to be put on the board His team includes former director Bob Hambley and former THS spokesperson Ian McConachie. Names sound familiar? They should. This man and the others should be as far away from ANY animal as possible. Tim Trow go retire and do us all a favor, dictate the remainder of your life by yourself and leave the animals alone! Did you all know that donations paid their legal fees? Thank Bob for that!

Oh that bastard would have wished he never been born if I got my hands on him!! I am so thankful that my local shelter is reaching out and taking care of their animals. I volunteer there and the staff loves the animals as if their there own. Every cat and dog has good food and water and their kennels are clean.last year some people painted the kennels to make it a brighter place to be and so some of the dogs who get ignored will get looked at. animals are not objects, they are living and breath

I adopted 2 cats in 2003 & 2004 from the THS. When I imagine for 1 second that they could be in this video, my heart explodes with pain. While knowing that ANY animal there could have found a loving care-giver if given a good chance. Or kept it, for that matter.

"Pet owners", please do anything you can to provide your animal companion with a loving & safe home; only adopt if you can say "for life"! If you have to give your animal away, choose wisely!

I broke down in tears watching this.

Only criticism would be to significantly turn down the music while people speak, especially in the 2nd half; it becomes louder and I can't hear anything but A. Lennox.

I hope that 1 outcome of this is that people become more aware of how they treat (their) animals. I know several educated people who refuse to neuter their male outdoor cats because "it's the females that should be fixed". Huh!?! Outrageous! IMO, we should reduce the demand for 'pets' period.

I know he was arrested along with four other members of the shelter including chef veterinarian Steve Sheridan, general manager Gary McCracken, supervisor Andy Bechtel and manager Romeo Bernadino were arrested following the Thursday raid.

Thats what made me research the topic and watch this video.
