How to play Finger Cymbals or Zills, Kawakib's Way.
http://www.kawakib.com
Basic patterns for beginners - Rolls, Singles, Doubles.
Companion video to July/August ZAGHAREET! Magazine article.
For beginners I recommend Turquoise or Saroyan "starter size" or "student size", around 2&1/4" or 2&1/16".

  • This is a great resource and practice video. Thank you for putting it together. I've shared it with my students and they couldn't be happier to have it!

  • @PanisEtCircense Thank you - I'm so happy they enjoy it and I hope they also enjoy playing cymbals!

  • are you using the heavy zills or the smaller type. it sounds like the heavier but I am having trouble they fill like cement. wonderful videos Thank you so much for posting them!

  • @321flare hi, thanks for writing. In the instructional segment I'm using smaller cymbals, often called "student size". I like using that size for the classroom. Start with the small one (about 2 & 1/4") to learn with, after you're comfortable playing you can get larger ones (like 2 & 1/2" etc.).

3" cymbals are hard to play well unless you have large hands like a man.

    Good luck to you!
