Another volatile week on Wall Street as markets rallied Wednesday after new data showed the overall economy is holding up, but it should not prevent the Federal Reserve from cutting interest rates again.
Congressional aides say the Bush administration has hammered out an agreement with industry to freeze interest rates for certain subprime mortgages for five years in an effort to combat a soaring tide of foreclosures. The Treasury also announced that there would be a technical briefing to explain more details of this proposal.
