I thought the song was called "happy land".

How hard was it when they sent people to Ausstralia for punishment? This is one of my favourite films and by the way Nick Cave is a genius.

@Needham90 Ever heard the song 'navigator' performed by the pogues? That's all about the men who built railroads for the empire. Great song :) x

For such a violent, nasty film (which is a great thing) it was strangely emotinal. This opening track really set the tone and raised the hairs on the back of your neck x

It's good that you've come to this realisation though. Feeling embarassed about an apparant lack of culture is the last thing you should be doing. Good luck sir, this world is a terrible and beautiful place.

I'm no Australian, but if I was, I would accept my history as an Australian from start to finish as you are, then look to a final result as you've done. Countries today try to hide their past, but we can only move on into the future if we learn from our mistakes. How can Japan atone for its crimes by changing the history in their children's textbooks? How can Australia move on and make itself a land in which aborigines and colonial-descendents can live together without accepting the black war?

The strange thing is this song sung by a little girl would not generally be good music, but in the context of the opening of this film it is perfect.
