Here is a clip of me shooting the fletched feathers - from a different angle... I stll have a long way to go and a lot of practising ahead of me in working on my instinctive shooting skills (and my overall shooting form). I have to say though, I really like this bow. Not that I have anything to compare it to as it's my first, but for the price these are going at right now, they are a real bargain. As you can see (hear?), the bow is actually fairly quiet now - especially when you compare the sound to that in my first video clip. The new string, brace height (set at a tad over 8"), and rubber wiskers did a decent job of dampening the noise on her...

Cheers,
hsld.

  • Foot, Bow Finger Eye. Foot You should make sure your feet are PERPENDICULAR to your target, your front foot is practically facing it. Bow Try to keep the bow vertical, it's better for posture. Your shoulders aren't sitting too bad, but the back needs to come back more so your posture is symmetrical otherwise your arms are doing the pulling, not your back muscles which they should be. Fingers Yours are plucking a little too me, just slow release. Eye Do NOT look for as long. Trust your instincts

Awesome! Just the sort of feedback I was looking for. Thanks so much for the helpful tips 8thsinner.

    Regards,

No problem, I was never qualified for GNAS but I taught archery for a few years, It's easy to see mistakes, not so easy to fix them yourself...An awesome book though, anatomy of archery. It might help too.

    Good luck with it.

I just finished putting together a flemish for my SHB samick 45# So I might even get some shooting with that in soon. yay. Haven't shot for ages myself, properly anyway.

Btw, Did you track the best brace height for yours? Or guess it?

  • @8thsinner

Thanks again. I'll have to check that book out. Been busy with work of late, so I too am looking forward to some time outside with my bow. After I changed the factory string out, I just started at about 8" and went from there - twisting the string a little at a time until I identified the quietest distance. I ended up at just about 8 1/4" in the end - and it seems to stay quite consistent at that.

    Cheers,

    hsld.

  • just post up and shoot man, your between olympic and traditional. doesnt look comfortable.

  • @JWALK2828

Don't quite get your comment... There are no sights on this recurve, so I don't really understand the "Olympic" reference. Yes, I guess I hold on just a tad long, but that's what beginners do... I don't claim to be an expert, nor do I post this for others to base their shooting technique on... Thanks for the comment though.

    Cheers,

    hsld.

I never had a factory string on mine, I got it second hand so I wouldn't be able to compare. giving the physics involved however the flemish string wins out in my opinion. strands in sets of seven. and being able to make a replacement adds that independance. I can make them but I can't really afford my own strings material right now so.

If you want though, I can ask my friend to make another one, I can give him my sizes and it will be ready to shoot for you at good prices

  • @8thsinner Thanks for the reply, just what i was hoping for.. but did you think the factory string worked well or should i try to put on another one?

  • @ReinoySnowboardFilms

I use a flemmish string for mine made by a friend, not sure what with, standard dacron though I think.

Also made me some ash arrows spined for 45#, I have shot 35# aluminium's without issue though.

My last Flemish string for it was much thinner so I suspect it can handle fast flight strings.

I haven't had much chance to shoot recently though, too busy with work. Sorry I can't help more than that.

  • @8thsinner Hi, i saw you had the Samick SHB, and im about to buy it but im kind off new to this sport so i was wondering witch type of string i should use for it, and what kind of arrows? I'll either buy a 40# or 45#

    thanks
