For your information, this is the original Nintendo 64 version. I got it for $12 used, which is more than what the Virtual Console sells it for, but hey, this was before the Virtual Console. So yes, I recorded this directly off the Nintendo 64.

Here's a bit of trivia for you: This is a Pokémon game made entirely in the United States. Pretty rare, even more so that it, along with Pokémon Yellow, are the only Pokémon games to take direct inspiration from the TV show. So we have Ken Sugimori imitators with full FMVs, rare for a cartridge game. Not unlike Triplets of Belleville imitators with full FMVs in Professor Layton.

I'm actually uploading this as a call to YuuGiJoou (or Queen of Games, apparently), who has a lot of videos of Panel de Pon, the original game that this is an American port of. Check them out at:

If you ever want to watch YouTube videos of puzzle games, I guess...

This video will take you through the opening video and the initial battle against Gary. Ash accepts Profesor Oak's invitation to Puzzle League Village (I'll bet the locals are annoyed at having such a stupid name for their home) and gets right to it, challenging everybody in sight to Panel de Pon. Or Tetris Attack, if you prefer. The first challenger is Gary, who makes fun of Ash, then beats him, then decides to mess with Ash by making him win.

By the way, if you don't know how Panel de Pom works, you'll learn. It's not hard to understand.

No need to call them Satoshi or Shigeru here--there's no Japanese version of this game, which makes it doubly interesting that the artists for this game were able to make everything look so authentic. (Remember that this is an American game, so we have a different team of artists, animators, and designers.)

By the way, the Pokémon used have no effect on your battle. They're just there to hang out in the background and provide voice samples when you do chains.

  • is there a way to play other people online on this

  • Not at this moment.

  • in the firts try you fail but in the second try you made it.i can download that rom free

  • I'd rather you have the real version, either N64 or Virtual Console. Otherwise, Nintendo won't have the money to make new games in the future.

  • Hmm, I have the exact same game but the graphics look slightly different. Mine is also the N64 version which is what confuses me so much. It's not such a huge difference, the blocks flash more when you "solve" them, lol. Maybe because I have the European version of it? Gah! It's so puzzling! Which is very fitting for the game, har har corny joke

  • Perhaps you have them set to the Panel de Pon shapes rather than the Gym Badges. Their animations are different.

  • Gary's evil cackling was creeping me out.

    Also, his catchphrase is annoying.

Anyway, nice job, there. I remember going to a friend's house, and they owned this game. I was all right at it.

  • KEEP ON TRYING

  • I have this now on my virtural console. I owned the original n64 cartridge as well. I'm nigh unbeatable in all version of Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon becuse I've played the series and nearly all its iterations for almost 20 years (i'm 23 and I started around 6 with GB Tetris Attack). I'm just that good. If you have planet puzzle league for DS, I can supply you with my FC.

  • lol i remember my mom's friend gave me and my sister this game for the n64 a LONG time ago. my friend called me a nerd cause i kept beating her, and omg i remember a 10min match in very hard, i was SO surprised that i even won xD. btw, you're actually pretty good.

  • you are a bit slow, but you don't stink

  • yeah i remmeber getting this game for christmas. now i hold on to this like a keepsake, because its hard to find now :(

  • your the one who does the videos of pokemon battle revolution

  • Bleh, they already made their money off of pokemon. They don't make any money off actual N64 games anyway(assuming you don't buy it at major store).

  • The voices, both from players and Pokemon, are one of my favorite things of this game actually. It's why I prefer it to Tetris Attack and Ultimate Puzzle League.
