At the Beyond Belief conference, astronomer Carolyn Porco describes the spirituality inherent in the scientific view of the Universe.

To see what a science-based religion might look like in real life, take a look at http://yoism.org Go to http://www.yoism.org/?q=node/271 to see the rest of this three part series (you can also download this video there). And see http://www.yoism.org/?q=node/34 to understand what we mean by "saint" in Yoism and why we refer to Dr. Porco as "Saint Carolyn."

  • How does this lake of fire burn for eternity? Where does all the oxygen come from? Also how come you burn when the body is in the dirt rotting away and conciousness ends at death. Conciousness is a product of neurons and when they degrade you no longer exist.

Your stupid fear-mongering is worthless to a person who has studied science.

  • This is one of the best video series on Youtube.

  • @salvationofchrist Consider it duly rejected!

  • @salvationofchrist because CAPS makes you right. oh wait.

  • @OhhFiddleSticks She never said the word 'worship' in the entire presentation.

  • What a great idea....as long as its a celebration of our wonderful cosmos and not "worship"!

  • The "Day of Great Awakening"... I love it. And every Sunday we can gather to discuss current events, practice and play with modern science/technology, and organize charities to help those less fortunate.

  • i take great comfort in knowing that religious beliefs and viewpoints are slowly peeling away. i don't expect mankind to immediately shift focus from the god-concept to the study of science and the universe. generations must die off and their teachings be relegated to history before we, as a species, can completely dedicate ourselves to true exploration and travel, but it's good to see the steps and strides we're already making.

here's hoping it happens before an asteroid destroys us. :)

  • A lot of what she finds appealing I also find appealing, however I don't really agree with her on a lot of her points. For example, "Teaching children at a young age".. to what...worship science? I don't want to teach children at a yound age to engage in any practice of that sort (worshiping, believing, etc).
