KUJS™ - Chapter 7

Kevin stepped in and shut the door, he kept his eyes on Joe. Even though Kevin already knew the answer he asked,

"Who is that song about Joe?"

Without hesitation Joe dishonestly replied, "Demi."

Kevin shot Joe a look of distrust, he advanced closer to Joe and stated the obvious,

"Demi's birthday is on August 20th Joe, the seventeenth is Alleys," his voice was stern.

Joe fiddled with the pen in his hand,

"Oh, uh, right, I'll have to change that," he pretended like he hadn't remembered.

Kevin walked over to the bed and stood in front of Joe, his eyes fixed on his fidgety body.

"She's taken Joe, you can't love her," Kevin got right to the point.

Joe shot up from the bed, "I have to go," he said in a monotone voice, as he did Kevin pushed him right back down.

Kevin switched from one foot to the other,

"Alley is with Nick, not you, understand?"

Joe's eyes fell, as he thought about what Kevin said.

"Its not about Alley, the song is about Demi," Joe repeated as if trying to convince himself.




"You can lie all you want," Kevin began. "But we both know that song was written about Alley."

Joe got up again and pushed Kevin away from him, "I've told you a million times, I wrote that song for Demi."

Kevin rolled his eyes, he didn't feel like arguing over it anymore. Just as Joe was walking to the door Demi appeared in the doorway.

"You wrote a song for me Joey?" Her eyes were enlarged with excitement as she placed her purse on the bed and reached for the paper.

Joe snatched it away from her before she could take it. Demi's joyful expression turned into one that displayed shock. Joe searched for words inside his head,

"Uh, ya but its not finished, I don't want you to hear it until its done," He kissed her head lightly and held his breath.

Demi looked at him with big puppy dog eyes and pouted, her lips looking like they belonged to fish. "Please," she begged hopelessly.

Joe breathed out and said sharply, "No, its not ready to be heard yet."

Demi stepped closer, placing her hands on her hips and scoffed, "Well you let Kevin hear it, and its not even about him." The stare she gave could kill.

Joe gulped and lied, "He was just helping me work out the glitches, I want it to be perfect when I sing it to you."

His words seemed sincere but Demi could see past the fake smile he put on his face.
From far off in the silent corner, Kevin finally interjected,

"Oh don't pull me into all this," As he flew up his hands and walked towards the door and out into the hallway. Joe shot him a dirty look and then placed his eyes back on Demi.

She gave him a quick smile, pretending to disguise her suspicion and changed the subject,

"It doesn't matter, I'll hear it when its done. Want to go get something to eat?"

Joe sighed in relief, he was glad she didn't ask questions and instead just moved onto something else. He dropped the paper on the bed and escorted Demi out of the room. "So where do you want to go eat?"




"How about, In and Out Burger?" She suggested as they walked down the hall towards the oak staircase hand in hand.

Joe chuckled and rubbed his stomach,
"Yum! You just completely read my mind."

As they walked down the stairs, Demi reached for her purse that usually hung off her arm, and realized that it was not there.

"Oh Joey, hold up a sec, I have to go get my purse. It's upstairs."

Joe nodded and released her hand. She quickly ran up the stairs and into his bedroom. Demi searched the room with her eyes and saw her purse sitting upright on the large bed. As she walked over to the bed and reached out her arm to pick up her purse, she couldn't help but notice the little paper laying next to it. She knew that she was not supposed to read it just yet, but her curiosity got the best of her, so she picked it up and read it.

Her eyes filled with tears of disappointment as she re-read over all of the words, for she now had proof that Joe did not love her, and instead loved Alley.
