I remember going into this mall and taking pictures for kindergarten since I missed mine when I went to Clark. I wouldn't have minded the mall staying there... I mean now there's a Wal-Mart there; when there already was one in Gurnee and now another in Zion.

I wish they had kept Carson Prairie Scott it was still used I know that it had roof issues but it would have cost less than having the thing demoed

I lived near there when it was built. Forty years later it's torn down. Fast changes.

So sad, as many shopping malls are doing poorly and the manage does nothing to keep them up and also keeps raising the rent on vendors.

I used to go to this mall

Correction: Lakehurst Mall opened in August of 1971 not 1972.

mixed retail space. so they are going to build another mall?

They basically carved a road through the mall site, then put a super Walmart, restaurants, and a gas station on the North end; and another strip mall and hotel on the South end. They also want to build a casino on the South end.

I don't under stand why people hate Gurnee mills so much? It was obviously the better mall if it drove an established mall out of buisness.

Gurnee Mills yes was the better mall of the two but I cannot stand its layout and it is poorly upkept. Even Lakehurst in its final days was cleaner than some parts of the Mills.
