Musical-slideshow of the demolition of the Lakehurst Mall in Waukegan, Illinois. This was made years ago before I really knew how to make videos, so it's not that great.

Music is:
The Byrds - Turn, Turn, Turn
Limp Bizkit - Build a Bridge

  • What is now at the mall?Another Wally-Mart?

  • @HattieLovesCattie Walmart, hotels, a gas station, restaurants, and a few strip malls.

  • mixed retail space. so they are going to build another mall?

  • They basically carved a road through the mall site, then put a super Walmart, restaurants, and a gas station on the North end; and another strip mall and hotel on the South end. They also want to build a casino on the South end.

  • I don't under stand why people hate Gurnee mills so much? It was obviously the better mall if it drove an established mall out of buisness.

  • Gurnee Mills yes was the better mall of the two but I cannot stand its layout and it is poorly upkept. Even Lakehurst in its final days was cleaner than some parts of the Mills.

  • I remember going into this mall and taking pictures for kindergarten since I missed mine when I went to Clark. I wouldn't have minded the mall staying there... I mean now there's a Wal-Mart there; when there already was one in Gurnee and now another in Zion.

  • I wish they had kept Carson Prairie Scott it was still used I know that it had roof issues but it would have cost less than having the thing demoed

  • I lived near there when it was built. Forty years later it's torn down. Fast changes.

  • So sad, as many shopping malls are doing poorly and the manage does nothing to keep them up and also keeps raising the rent on vendors.

  • I used to go to this mall

  • Correction: Lakehurst Mall opened in August of 1971 not 1972.

  • build a bridge is great song choice

  • @jonrev gurnee mills is a nightmare....how do you build something in a z pattern? What a moronic concept.

  • the casino that pohldriver mentioned is a dead issue afer many, many years of trying.

  • @420acid Cinnabon...those were kick ass!! They're making one at Gurnee Mills. UGH! I hate Gurnee Mills! Oh well!

  • @jonrev I agree with you!

  • @jonrev Thanks for the info.My town tore down a old mall I liked and put a real swanky outdoor shopping center. Its doing very well but I still miss the old mall.
