The unnamed witness told Mexican officials that he had come from Ecuador, while others in the group were from countries including El Salvador, Honduras and Brazil. He said the migrants were shot after refusing to work for the gang. He had been injured but managed to escape and alerted marines at a nearby checkpoint.

The 58 men and 14 women were killed by the Zetas gang, the migrant told investigators Wednesday. The gang, started by former Mexican army special forces soldiers, is known to extort money from migrants who pass through
its territory.

Authorities did not say why the gang killed the migrants. Mexico's drug cartels frequently kidnap migrants nd threaten to kill them unless they pay fees for crossing their territory. Sometimes, gangs contact relatives of the migrants in the U.S. and demand they pay a ransom.

The marines fought the cartel gunmen at a ranch in the northern state of Tamaulipas on Tuesday, a battle that left one marine and three suspects dead. They found the bodies of 58 men and 14 women in a room, some piled
on top of each other.

The Ecuadorean migrant told investigators that his captors identified themselves as members of the Zetas drug gang, said Vice Adm. Jose Luis Vergara, a spokesman for the Mexican navy. Authorities believe the
migrants were from Honduras, El Salvador, Brazil and Ecuador.

MEXICO CITY - A Mexican business association said Thursday that it is protesting Senate Bill 1070 by refusing to meet with Arizona officials who are visiting the Mexican capital this week in an effort to drum up trade.

The Mexico City chapter of the Mexican Employers' Association said it had rejected an Aug. 18 meeting request by the Arizona delegation because it believes the state's new immigration law discriminates against Hispanics.

This is terrible, and also unfortunately a side effect of ILLEGAL immigration. Come LEGALY and this won't happen. Just another reason to stop amnesty programs and discourage illegal immigration. Mexico needs to get it's house in order, the cartels are out of control, the citizens need to quit running away to America and start making their own government responsible.

The Mexi border has suffered pollution because of illegals they leave tons of trash in Arizona desert, devastating to the environment

Take the trash,scoop it up & dump it on the Mexican side of the border. It belongs to them! Maybe the Gov. should place recycling bins along the border.. The illegals have no problems working as scavengers once they reach El Norte.
