Do you think it needs to be slowed down?

  • Wow! You have great confidence and style. Your variation on the final verse was fantastic. You might want to slow down just a bit and focus on precision, but the overall delivery is great, better than many much-more-seasoned organists I've heard.

  • I definitely agree! It needs to be slowed down!

  • Good job! However, the Welsh people in this area (for whom this is like a national anthem) would insist it be slower and grander. You haven't lived until you've heard the way the Welsh sing this hymn!!

  • The Welsh are correct in saying that it needs to be slower!

  • Our text in my parish is "God of Grace and God of Glory"; tune Cwm Rhondda. I'd love to sing it this energentically at my parish but I'd leave the people in the dust if I dared play it this fast!

  • I agree, it was a bit fast. I would never do it in a church this fast!

  • Cwm Rhonda - the most familiar hymn of Wales. Good job Rees!

  • That's a WONDERFUL organ. The only pipe organ I have access to is a medium-sized Kilgen organ that isn't designed very well. Very nice arrangement as well.

  • @gmc0422 The Lutheran parish I attended for some years had an organist who played most hymns at or near this tempo - wonderful! And the congregation didn't drag either. To my dismay, I find most Episcopal churches draaaag hymns to the extreme.

Keep up your energetic playing, young sir.

  • Very enjoyable. VERY well played. Be sure not to obscure the melody when adding stops. It may have been the camera's mic, but in the last variation the bass and left hand harmony covered up the melody. Another couple of higher stops, perhaps trumpets, strings, diapasons, or oboes? I don't know what you had down. And move the right hand to the upper manual? Again, I'm no organist, but as a musician, that's what I offer. GREAT JOB otherwise! :)

  • Wow...I love the sound of the full Swell...really neat organ!

  • Yes, slower for congregational singing. However, if your playing it as a prelude/postlude the tempo really isn't a concern.

  • Tempo is fine, I play it just a hir slower but this is fine! nice work. People will be able to sing it this fast fine, especially if they know it. the chords are light and cheerful it would be soooo boring slow.

  • you asked if you should slow down- If you are playing : "Guide me" this tempo is fine

especially in a baptist setting. Playing "God of grace" in an Espiscopal church, the tempo should be slower and a bit more stately. Just my take.
