gigapan is much more mature:
-buy for less than $400
-fits almost any camera
-unpack, start shooting and stitching straight from the box
-internal batteries
-much smaller and lighter
-excellent results

This system is for DSLRs which GigaPan does not support. They are planning to release a platform for DSLRs (The GigaPan DSLR Imager), but it has not yet been released.
Also the purpose of this project was to create something ourselves -- there are most likely commercial products which would function much better and are much more refined for this purpose. This is merely a prototype for a project, most of the work revolved around the calculations.
