Actually,one of ancestor of Japonica rice which is Japanese staple food was from southern China directly maybe with ancient southern Chinese people,too.

So,east Asian history is not so simple like brothers just as same as around the Mediterranean.

Funny that. Since japanese culture stems from Korea, with Korean culture stemming mainly from China.
