This is my calico cat Treccia. She is also known as a tortoiseshell cat, but I prefer the former name.
Treccia is a type of breaded white Italian bread. My cat's nickname is Giffel (or affectionately Giffelie) which is the Swedish word for the French bread croissant - which is crescent shaped. We couldn't decide so we made one be a nickname instead. Ever known a cat to have a nickname so different from the original?
Both calico and tortoiseshell cats are almost always female. It's not a specific breed, so there aren't specific characteristics to give out as I did with Baguette (my other cat) who is a Chartreux. Treccia here is easily very frightened. She had an unhappy first 8 months of life, eating dog food and getting kicked out of houses, before we found her. She probably has PTSD, but she knows we all love her. Unfortunately, she's still startled at the slightest movement or sound.
She loves to play with her sisters Ciabattina and Baguette. (All three cats are not blood related.)
Treccia also has an odd and interesting habit to scratch the floor and walls before eating. My family sees it as a habit of etiquette.
Poor wee thing, have you ever read about the ways that cats communicate? One of them (which I thought was the most important to know) is that when a cat blinks slowly, it's to let you know that it comes peacefully and means no harm. Next time you catch eyes with your cat directly you should try it, it'll most likely ease your cat when you're approaching her.

Oh, don't worry. She's a sweetheart. She just happens to be fearful because she was abused as a kitten before we got her. We believe she has PTSD.
