Lake Bluff, Illinois, is a small suburban community north of Chicago. Known for its wealth and lack of pretension, this is not Peoria. It's a cute little town made of white picket fences and a town square restored to perfection—the stuff American dreams are made of. The Lawn Mower Precision Drill Team is a group of fathers who gather together in the town's Fourth of July Parade. They push their mowers in synchronized formation, mocking the fact that most of them never actually push mowers. Through elaborate costumes they have taken to poking fun at local issues—zoning, school council elections, and this year, the gays.
Yeah gays should be mocked and made to hide under rocks.

Wow, I think you are taking this a bit too seriously. Yes, it was a bad joke - bad in the sense that it was unfunny. I don't think the message was "gays aren't welcome" , the message to me was "We had no good joke ideas this year." Like you said, it's just drunk dads(as it always has been) displaying some sort of ridiculous stereotype(as it always has been)....to take it to the level of some anti-gay movement by the Lake Bluff dads is quite a stretch.

Well put Hoakeysmokes. Let's also keep in mind that Independence Day is about expressing our rights, like freedom of speech and freedom of expression. Without these rights the gay community would be persecuted and in some countries, executed.
If you can't deal with these rights Mr. Submitter, and can't embrace and support them, I suggest you move to China.

His pain means nothing to you. But that doesn't mean it's invalid. What he experiences is real for him and everyone like him. You have no place to tell him how to feel about it. You do'nt get over ongoing persecution. You should be discriminated against and told to "get over it". That's just calous and ignorant.

I think you're a poser. "Colored" went out of style about two generations ago. At least, in Aerica.

I don' t know what saddens me more, the fact that you actually took the time to make this whole commentary or that you let this bad joke offend you to the point of blaming the actions of a few drunk men on an entire town. You must live a very lonely life. For years I've watched the lawn mower brigade from my lawn with anticipated glee. You make it sound as if they're committing hate crimes in front of children. It was a bad joke. I'm sure you're the only one who cares.Get over it. Get a life
