10 yr old young Awo of Babalawo in northern Oyo State, Nigeria, reciting Ifa poetry (students as young as 4yrs old) - the Ifa Corpus. The Odu Ifa are arranged in 16 major chapters with an additional 240 minor chapters making a collections of 256 Odu Ifa chapters or the wisdom of Olodumare (God the Creator) in 256 containers of sacred wisdom/knowledge delivered to mankind in the form of ancient parables. It is said that each of the containers has no less then 1,500 stories per container in 256 places, the wisdom / knowledge of the Yoruba Traditional Religion called Ifa, is vast and beyond any one humans mind capacity.
Ifa Philosophy is still very much an oral tradition with a collective of knowledge dating back over 10,000 years from the creation of Human kind and even the creation of this Universe.

  • The Odu Ifa make no mention of Caucasians, the text existed before Caucasians when all humans were African. The confusion you see is a formality among West Africans that consists of flattery. It is not that they think higher of foreigners but that it is polite to flatter them. You will find this formality in the opening of many African epics transcribed by foreignors, who later became aware that it was simply an expression of welcome.
