A video I made of all the junebugs that I caught. Me and my Dad probably gathered about 30 of them altogether, maybe more.
They're "Green June Beetles" and they usually are only around in June/late June and July/early July.
And when they come around, they really do. Even after all these were caught, there would be an average of 3 in the air consistently in our front lawn.

And they're very, very, very fun to catch. They're pretty big, they can't hurt you (although their claws are prickly), they fly a little slower than most insects, and they make a very cool low buzzing noise. Vrrrrrooooooooom...........
They also have a unique smell.

I kept them for about a day. None of them were dead, and I didn't do anything to really hurt them. They're too cool. Although, their actions against each other aren't under my control! They grapple and fly into the sides of the container. Doesn't hurt them though, these things are very, very tough.

They're active during the day, and burrow into the grass and ground at night. They buzz around all day doing the same. Who knows what they do underground.
I hear that these things, like Japanese beetles, can turn into major pests.
I can see why, since they come out in mass numbers.

I hope you enjoyed my video. It was a lot of fun for me. I had more fun releasing all of them than I did catching them, hearing them buzz off and crawl around on me. It's one of the many calls of Summertime.

And before you know it, they'll be gone.

For a whole 'nother year.
