Breast augmentation or breast enlargement, is the most common cosmetic surgery done in the U.S. each year. I have committed myself and my practice to this procedure as our primary practice focus, while still doing other breast, body and facial cosmetic surgery and minimally invasive procedures.

Breast augmentation has the highest re-operation rate nationally, but I personally have one of the lowest rates in the country. I strive for natural results, which coincidentally, have a lower complication and re-operation rate. My approach is to fill your breast tissue to its ideal fullness but not to overfill it. While placing breast implants that are too large is commonly done elsewhere by other surgeons (often combined with a poor surgical technique), this results in overstretching of tissues, a bad outcome and the need for additional surgery. These, in turn, mean additional expenses for the patient.

My foremost goal in breast enlargement is to match your "wishes and wants" to the reality of the tissues you bring to the operating table. I certainly don't have an agenda not to give someone a particular breast cup size if it won't lead to problems and complications. But, if we don't respect the limitations of your body's tissues to support a particular size breast implant, then you risk complications as well as becoming a statistic—and having an undesirable outcome. As can be seen in our before and after pictures, my patients get natural-looking, full and youthful breasts. They experience improved body image and self esteem. When a woman feels more feminine, attractive and confident as a result of our breast enlargement surgery, I feel a special satisfaction in helping her to achieve that outcome.

Breast augmentation should not be taken lightly. This surgery changes your breasts and your body for the rest of your life, so you need to do your homework. First, it is important to be sure that a surgeon is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Before you choose your plastic surgeon, be sure you understand the importance of board certification. Second, don't be afraid to ask how many breast augmentations a surgeon does every year and what their complication and re-operation rates are. If a surgeon doesn't talk to you about these things, ask yourself why. Lastly, view several sets of the surgeon's breast augmentation before and after photos. You need to see what he/she has realistically done for other patients. Again, this is your body, and you are considering a major lifelong change. Choose wisely.
