I've long been an admirer of Chaplin- the man and his art. A true genius, who gave the world so much joy, and continues to do so. A shame what the States did to him.

And this version of Smile by Michael Jackson was a real surprise to me- very touching and nicely done. Another talented man, but a sad life and a tragic ending.

In the 1950s I was working around the London Docks dealing with U.X.Os There was a local Public House near Rotherhith Tunnel we used to pop into for pie and mash and a pint of bitter ,There was a piano and I was playing it and this small elderly gent got up from his bench seat and came over to add a second right hand . He was obviously better than myself so I moved over to give him full scope. it turned out that it was Charles Chaplin on a visit to the local area. He came over for a yarn with us
