annyct1 ... It was Lucas, not Spielberg. Also, American Graffiti was set in 1962. Lucas used only songs that were current in '62 or were already oldies because they were supposedly being played by Wolfman Jack on the radio right when the action was taking place. The Tempos' version was released in '59, I think; the Happenings' cover wasn't released till '66. Lucas couldn't've used the Happenings' version if he'd wanted to or he would've blown the theme of his scoring.
Great song and this rendition is better than the original by the Tempos.
