Big oil and OPEC failed to keep up the price of corn futures. Corn is now down just below $5 at which price Ethanol is profitable at $2.99 a gallon retail.

LOL...That was funny...you make it seem like Big Oil and OPEC are SOOO evil. What about those cartels using subsidies to fund their swindle? AMD ring a bell. It cost the nation 8 dollars/gallon. Also the guy at the top neglected to mention that corn consumes 29 percent more fossil fuel than they give back on burning...Doesn't that make up for the supposed "cleaner than gas" statement?...what your talking about is impossible and stupid. If it cost too much to make it then its worthless.

We can have food and fuel.

10%, 130 million acres of America's farmland can produce 40 billion gallons of ethanol. Produce as a by product, 15 million tons of DDGS, enough protein and fat concentrate to raise 10 million tons of fish, enough for 4 ounces a day, 6 days a week, feeding 3 billion people for a year their protein.

Double the land to 260 million acres in corn, fodder beets and Sorghum and we feed everyone on earth their protein and replace all imported oil outside America.

I wish people would base their opinions on facts, not what they have been told. Ethanol is a much cleaner fuel that can be made from many different crops. There are at least 25 crops that yield more ethanol per acre than corn. Ethanol was around before gasoline, is cleaner, is renewable and cheaper to produce. Which is better - Jobs for Americans or sending $500 billion out of the country every year? P.S. - The US government currently pays farmers to NOT grow crops on 40 million acres.

Process 1: Grown corn, farm corn, feed corn to cattle.
Process 2: Grown corn, farm corn, make ethanol with corn, feed WDG's to cattle.

There is no loss of food!! And extremely little energy to process and distill. In fact 1 company uses the heat from cow manure to distill the ethanol.

...not to mention that it takes massive amounts of gas-powered vehicles and equipment to plant, cultivate, harvest, and ultimately distribute it. By the end-user, the cost in terms of resource depletion, pollution, and money does not make it efficient enough to validate it's production. This is not even taking into account that many components of the equipment necessary to raise and convert the crops require some form of petroleum. Ethanol is a dead end.

Ok people lets do a little experiment. A car or truck engine can run on 100% ethanol . Now when we park the car in the garage and start up the motor running on gasoline, shut the garage door and see how long you can last in there. Now run the car on ethanol, you will last a hell of a lot longer with the alcohol! Now figure out what all the millions of cars in the world are doing to the air! Not Global warming, Global AIR POSION. GAS is POISON!
Drink it if you don't believe it!

I think you might want to take a look at some facts, maybe brush up on actual knowledge. The reason corn prices have been so ungodly low from about 1980 to 2006, the government actually pays farmers not to grow corn on some of their acres because an even bigger surplus would tank prices and the market ripples would be felt by the entire country. Maybe I can simplify that for you: We have enough corn for both Food and Fuel.
