The Marmalade were one of the most popular bands of the 1960s and 1970s, scoring a host of hits including "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" and "Reflections Of My Life" with original singer Dean Ford. Dean left the band in the early 70s.
Fast forward to 2009 and the band are still one of the best on the circuit. Graham Knight (the only other original) has now left the band since this interview took place.

"New" lead singer Sandy Newman has been with them for 35 years! Radio Borders' Hugh Brown caught up with Graham and Sandy at The Minto Hotel, Edinburgh, on 1st August 2009 for a chat. This is Part 1 of a two-part programme which also features acoustic unplugged versions of two of their hits "Rainbow" and "Lovin' Things". More from Hotdisc Television at www.hotdisc.net

  • I love this video so much, that's my father and my godfather there. So glad that people still love their music. Although I would like to point out that my father did not quit the band, he was asked to leave.

  • Judging by what he's saying on here this group were just a bunch of puppet yes-men who did what they were told.

  • Thanks for posting this very informative video. Marmalade remain one of the most underated bands of all time, possibly due to their early "poppy" image and considerable bad tabloid press. I remember sharing a booking with them around 1980, certainly Newman and Knight were with them then but I can't recall who else. "Reflections" must surely rate as one of the all time great songs.

  • I never heard of this band (and so many others) as I was born on the heels of the 60s, but to have discovered them in this most unlikely a manner, meaning, the invention of the Internet, they have instantly become my favorite. USA

  • Nice playing and singing Sandy

  • Amazing, he still sounds just like he did then, same melodic voice, a very rare thing. Most singers, after a few years, sound rather disappointing. This guy has not lost his great delivery and melody one bit. Great!

  • unbeatable music era

  • Something has puzzled me for decades and that was the night Marmalade played The Sundown in Charing Cross Road around 1976...They didn't play a single one of their hit records. They made a god-awful noise for an hour and just buggered off. What was that all about ?

  • The original band was incredible the sound was different.... THe new band did not improve, it was different... two different planes of musical aesthetic

  • The original singer and band only lasted 6 or 7 years, this Marmalade lasted 35 years and have actually improved during that time.
