By very popular request.. the simply beautiful arrangement that Dougie MacLean plays, when performing Robert Burns´s timeless love song ´Ae Fond Kiss `. I hope this de- mystifies the playing of this tune for the people who are struggling with the tuning and ´odd ´chord shapes...
Enjoy
John

  • Thanks so, so much for the lesson on this gorgeous song which I would never have been able to figure out without your video. Just a note for others: While learning the finger picking also listen to Dougie MacLean's version very closely as there are several differences ---- for example the timing of the slide in the first chord, perhaps the absence of the hammering on/off as well as differences in some of the picking sequences in the other chords. Either version is however beautiful.

  • @montereybob1 Thanks for your kind comments. I just played from memory, and haven´t heard the original in a while. So It´s good that you pointed out the differences. I would also highly recommend listening to the original as your orientation point, and also, that when playing the song, that it should be played reflecting the player rather than just immitating the lesson. That, I feel, is something essential for music to flourish and grow.

    Thanks, John

  • You have made my day, my week, my month and my year! You have de mysttified the chords for me but in no way lessened the stunning beauty of the song.

    Thank you very much

  • Thank You so much ! If it wasn´t for you and a few other asking how it´s played I would never have thought to post this.

`A thing of beauty is a joy forever`, is an appropriate quote here....

  • Brilliant! Ive been looking on how to play this tune for years! Never seen any tabs for the dougie maclean version ever! Thanks again

  • Ok I am a muppet! I checked out your other video and spotted in the comments the pointers you gave there. So just to save anyone else the bother the guitar is tuned GADGBE

Thanks for posting all these great videos.

  • I know I am being a grade A muppet but could you clarify how the guitar is tuned?

Would I be right in saying you are in normal tuning EADGBE with the capo on the third fret? It's just I know Dougie plays a lot of stuff in an open C tuning which is what I am currently tuned to and as I am playing for two different singers next week I was hoping that I could play both songs in C tuning but I have a feeling I will need to retune between songs arrrgh!

  • Thanks for that. I shall be practicing it later! :)
