What time is it? Amateur Extension Theater 2000 time! .... well, fine, your wristwatch can say whatever it wants, but that's what time it is, really.

Skies of Arcadia (Eternal Arcadia in Japan) remains one of my all time favorite RPGs. It had a way of drawing you into the story through lush graphics, fantastical realms, and exquisite music. 'Remote Town' is one such example.

Imagine a town built at the farthest edge of the known world. It is a place where the skies are permanently stained blood red, where chill winds howl mercilessly without end, where a tenebrous abyss waits to devour all who dare to tread near it. The town itself is a rusted, sorrowful husk, much like the dispirited and bitter people who inhabit it.

That town is Esperanza, where this theme is heard. So beautiful a melody... yet so heart-wrenching and utterly, utterly desolate.
