INEFFECTIVENESS AND DANGERS OF HUNTING

After 100 years of intensive hunting the PA Game Commission has intentionally created a so called "deer overpopulation problem".

Wildlife Forever

PNC, Inc. (Pity Not Cruelty) is a 501 (c) 3 not for profit foundation dedicated to the Protection, Needs and Care of non-human animals. PNC believes that the public not only needs, but desires factual information concerning wildlife fertility control. The information on this site comes from various sources; PNC does not necessarily endorse all of it. In particular PNC rejects the notion that animals are nothing more than pests or nuisances as if these are inherent qualities in the species.

Hunting Increases Deer - Car Collisions
According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, most car/deer collisions happen during hunting season. Pennsylvania's second largest insurance company (the nation's 12th largest insurer) - Erie Insurance - collected data in 1997 which showed: * 50 % of all deer-car collision claims occurs during October, November and December -primarily due to hunting. Hunters will claim that this is mating season but it's not. Deer mate in October - a time when the deer-car collision rate was 1600. The vast majority of deer-car collision claims - i.e. 4524 claims - occurred in November to December during hunting season not mating season. * The counties with the highest number of deer-car collisions were among the most heavily hunted counties based on statistics from Erie Insurance and the Pennsylvania Game Commission. * Pennsylvania Deer-car collisions averaged 34 deer claims per day for the year. But on the first day of buck season the average was 157 and on the first day of doe season it was 160 - a five-fold increase! * Hunting of deer predators Habitat modification including clear-cutting to enhance "edge" habitat and planting vegetation for deer.

"Hunters scare deer out of the woods through a common practice known as "driving" the deer. One group of hunters will walk through the woods, driving the deer towards another hunter or group of hunters on the other side, who are waiting to ambush and kill the deer. Of course, this means the deer are running to escape the hunters, which causes many of them to run onto roads."

  • Shooting hours are from about 6am-6pm So most morning collisions are 5-7am, So half the morning spike you could blame on hunters. And most evening collisions happen 5-11pm, so thats 1 hour in the evening you can blame on hunters and 5 hours you can't blame on hunters. So 2 out of the total 8 hours you can actually blame on hunters because the other 6 hours it is illegal to hunt.

  • Spare us your pathetic calculation lol

  • What a giant load of crap. I am so tired of the animal rights propaganda. I think you might want to start getting your facts from the people who know what they are talking about instead of PETA. The money collected from hunting and fishing licenses help game and non game animals. We the Hunters and Fishermen in the USA raise more money for all wildlife than you and your animal rights groups. SO GET YOUR FACT STRAIGHT.

  • First of all I am no peta and second, check the video information there is a link to my blogger that explain where the money actually goes to>>>>

  • "Good nutrition can be accomplished by doing three things that involve proper habitat management, supplemental feeding, and the planting of food plots."

That quote came from "buck management" website.

  • Thank you for making it clear to the public that hunters do go at those hours because the deer are most active. Overall DVA's are highest during hunting season, plus the antlered deer were created by the hunting industry.

"Managing for proper nutrition in white-tailed deer is important for good body condition, good fawn production and recruitment, and maximum antler growth."

  • Why don't you lay the blame where it belongs? NATURE!!!!!!!!!!! Deer are simply more active at night and around dawn and dusk, thats why people hunt the most at those times. Nature makes the deer move more and thats why the collisions spike at those times.

  • That is what sell the hunting tags the coward little men wants to kill the big antlered deer to compensate for their shortcoming. All that "producing" has caused this overpopulation.

  • The population "getting out of control" is because hunting organization are so busy trying to produce enough deer herd to satisfy hunters every year. They spend billions of dollar clear cutting forest, burning vegetation and timber, putting food plots and even "supplement feeding" to create large large deer herd specifically to try and get as much large antlered deer as possible.

  • ok listen heat you silly **** car deer accidents are not hunters fault because when the population gets out of control say michigan the deer have to move out of the woods because they have no food and nepheshangel yah sure they bang each other but they only have 1 or rare 2 fawns so you kill a bunch of does and a buck or 2 there you go do the math 4 or 5 does to 1 buck do the math
